The Swift has been an immensely popular model and a very significant one for the brand. The Swift is loved so much in the Indian market, that even if it came with a few flaws, it would still be accepted by buyers. This is a sporty hatchback that’s been known for its funky design and driving dynamics. For 2020, Maruti Suzuki has launched a limited edition just in time for the festive season. Prices start at ₹ 5.44 lakh and this comes with an accessories package that includes alterations on the outside and inside as well.
On the outside
The new Maruti Suzuki cars retains the basic silhouette of its predecessors, yet looks very different. The headlamps are swept-back and get LED running light signatures and LED projectors as well. The tail lights are compact and extend over the rear fenders. The car is also wider and it gets the typical floating roof. The rear door handles are mounted in the C-pillar, giving it the appearance of a three-door hatch. The grille up-front gets a mesh with an air dam under it. It comes shod with 15-inch wheels. On this limited edition variant, it features a gloss black front, rear and side skirts. It even gets rain deflectors for the windows in a gloss black. And it sports a black rear spoiler and the black finish on the front grille.
Better than before
The dashboard is shared with the Dzire and it sports an all-black cabin with circular central air vents and controls and silver accents. The dashboard may appear simple but it is well designed and boasts of a big touchscreen infotainment system. The quality of plastics could’ve been better. The front seats offer good support while the rear has improved in terms of room. The cabin is wider and there lots of stowage areas around and the rear bench offers good comfort. Boot space, at 268 litres, is good.
Turbo power
The Swift is powered by a 1.2-litre K12C DualJet engine petrol engine that produces 89bhp and 113Nm of torque. It performs well on the road because of its light chassis. The engine is responsive and pulls in a linear manner. Drivability is good and there isn’t much vibration; it revs freely and sounds sporty when pushed hard. The gearbox is light and quick to use. The steering is light and precise, and the chassis balance is perfect. On bumps, you can hear the thump. The ride improves as you pick up pace. The brakes offer good bite too.
The Swift competes with the Grand i10 Nios and Ford Figo and continues to lead in its segment, and this limited edition model should only help bumps figures up further. However, no mild-hybrid tech is being offered and the Swift will now deliver better performance and fuel economy. Also, grab the latest info on the upcoming cars, only at autoX.
